No recipe today folks. I got my butt out of bed and woke the kidlets at the unholy hour of 5:30am so we could high tail it into Sydney Markets for the annual Cherry Auction. And now I’m exhausted and I’ve just gotten the kids to bed and Wonderland will be on soon. It’s a tough life.
CHERRIES ARE HERE!
CHERRIES ARE HERE!
And mangoes and nectarines and peaches and apricots!
We’ve got some serious love for stone fruit season here at ProFruit HQ.
The first box (well, actually there were two boxes because they couldn’t pick one that was the best) sold for $50,000. That’s $5,000 a KILO! Yep. Take it in.
In total, the Sydney Markets raised $80,000 with proceeds going to the charity Save Our Sons. Now, I might not have the energy to scan my memory bank for a recipe for you guys, I do have the energy to tell you about an AMAZING charity we’ve been supporting.
Taken from the SOS website:
“The Eid family started Save Our Sons in February of 2008 after their son was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The family has decided that there is always a way and to sit on your hands will never effect change.
They had 2 options:
- To accept the situation and do nothing or…
- Try to accept the situation and really do something in attempt to save their son’s life.
They chose option 2.”
If you haven’t heard of SOS (or even if you have), please watch the below clip.
Put simply, these guys are passionate, inspiring and not afraid of doing the hard work to achieve their goals.
They also have this initiative where they ask for your 5 cent coins. The 5′s For Lives program places perspex boxes in shops, cafe’s, schools and other places of business where customers and staff can discard their unwanted 5 cent coins. So if you see one of these boxes, please give your 5 cents generously. As they say at SOS, “because something little, can go a long way”.
That’s all from me this week. I’ve been feeling like whipping up something very naughty in the kitchen so you are being warned, next week will not be gentle in calories!
